Age requirements differ for each cruise line. Policies are strictly enforced by the cruise lines, and guests who do not meet the minimum requirements will not be permitted to board. The age of all guests will be verified by boarding documents, such as passport or birth certificate with state-issued identification (drivers license/DMV issued ID card).
Carnival Cruise Line

Age to travel alone - Guests are required to be 21 years of age (on embarkation day) to book a cruise and travel on their own.

Exceptions to guests under the age of 21 may traveling without a relative or guardian of 25 years of age or older under the following conditions:
- Legally married couples, including same gender couples - Documentation should be e-mailed prior to the cruise or hand-carried to embarkation. Failure to provide documentation or not conforming to this policy will result in denied boarding and no compensation will be provided.
- Qualified Military Personnel - Applies to US Military Personnel and Canadian National Defense personnel (and their traveling companions in the same stateroom) of 18 – 20 years of age. Copy of proof of service must be submitted.

- Infant age policy - Babies must be 6 months or older to sail on most Disney cruises. The exceptions are longer cruises (such as transatlantic and Panama Canal sailings) where the minimum age is 12 months.
Holland America Cruise Line
- Age to travel alone - Guests under 21 years of age must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or chaperone that is at least 21 years old; one adult chaperone is required for every five people under the age of 21.

Infant age policy - Due to the limited medical facilities on board, Holland America will not accept reservations for infants (6) six months or younger for non-Transocean sailings or 12 months or younger for Transocean sailings at time cruise commences.
- Minors under the age of 18 traveling to foreign countries must be accompanied by both parents or have a notarized letter of consent signed by the parent(s) not traveling. If the other parent is deceased or the child has only one legal parent, a notarized statement must be obtained as proof.
MSC
- Age to travel alone - Passengers under the age of 21 (on voyages that include a port in the USA) or 18 (on voyages that do not include a port in the USA) must travel accompanied by their parents or a legal guardian.
- Infant age policy - for certain itineraries, the minimum age is 12 months. These are often cruises where there are a lot of consecutive days at sea (such as transatlantic crossings), cruises that last longer than two weeks, or cruises to certain regions such as Hawaii and South America.
Norwegian Cruise Line
- Age to travel alone - Norwegian Cruise Line's policy dictates that a minor or young adult under the age of 21 must be accompanied in the same stateroom (or a connecting/adjoining stateroom) by a guest 21 years of age or older at the time of boarding.

Princess Cruise Line
- Age to travel alone - Passengers under the age of 21 years must travel in a stateroom with a Passenger 21 years or older who shall assume responsibility for their care during the cruise.
- Travelling with Infants - The minimum Passenger age is 6 months on Alaska, Canada/New England, Caribbean, Europe, Mexico, and Trans-canal cruises, and 12 months on all other cruises.
Royal Caribbean Cruise Line

- Royal Caribbean International's minimum age to sail unaccompanied on sailings originating in North America is twenty-one (21).
- Royal Caribbean International's minimum age to sail unaccompanied on sailings originating in South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand is eighteen (18).
- Travelling with Infants - Infants sailing on a cruise must be at least 6 months old as of the first day of the cruise and/or CruiseTour. HOWEVER: For transatlantic, transpacific, Hawaii, select South American and other selected cruises and/or CruiseTours, the infant must be at least 12 months old as of the first day of the cruise/CruiseTour. For the purposes of this policy, any cruise that has 3 or more days consecutive at sea will require infants to be 12 months old on the first day of the cruise/CruiseTour.
